We set out

The Parthenon on the Acropolis, the "city on the hill," is the main event in this town, so after breakfast we directed our steps thither.

We left the busy streets behind and started hiking upwards along Athens' byzantine warren of pedestrian paths.

The paths got steeper...

... and narrower...

... and narrower...

Were we still on the path?

"We must be," said Nadia.

"It's too small to be anybody's courtyard."

We continued, guided by my incredible map reading skills and inate sense of direction (along with signs on every corner for the lost tourist.)

The Acropolis loomed overhead as we slowly neared our goal.
